I love creating snack platters. I think it’s because I’m not really cooking, yet I get to be creative with food – and turn it into a little work of art. That work of art usually gets devoured pretty quickly in my house, and that’s okay.
Snack platters are perfect to have around for when you are watching a big game, having a family movie night, expecting a friend over for coffee or cocktails, or if you know dinner is going to be running late.
You can create snack platters with a huge variety of ingredients depending on the occasion, however, I love to always have some specialty cheeses in my crisper for the base of most of my snack platters.
How To Create an easy snack platter
Always just utilize what you have on hand before going out and buying a bunch of stuff. Like I mentioned above – I always have a couple of kinds of specialty cheeses stocked in my refrigerator for such use.
Next, if you’d like, ad some meats. This could be anything really, from salami to deli turkey. Add some crackers or crostinis and you have a simple snack platter!
The key to making a snack platter so tasty is to arrange everything in a visually appealing pattern. Don’t just pile everything on a plate! Slice meats thin. Cut cheeses differently – into sticks, chunks, slices, etc. Create color patterns on plates, and add little extra touches like herb garnishes for color.
You can also add other items that you have on hand in your house, such as:
- grapes
- nuts
- pickled vegetables
- berries
- olives
Also, think about spreads – I love having an herb cheese, mustard’s, and my favorite? Red pepper jelly!
Remember this: half of your snack platter isn’t just what you put on it, it’s how you display it. Make something pretty and document it!
